June 2018 SporkNews

If you are new to WeatherSpork, welcome to the family!  We hope you are finding the app to be useful to find the most opportune time to depart.  The month of June meant taking in many suggestions from our customers and adding more under-the-hood foundation to the app.  So, there hasn’t been much in the way of new features this month, but we are working on release 4.4.0 that’s due to be available in the next week or two.  We thank you for your patience as we are making the app even easier to use with each new release.  If you have any bright ideas, please keep those suggestions coming.

Want WeatherSpork to be FREE?

Give us a referral.  We’ve gotten several new members through the WeatherSpork referral program launched in May.  Essentially if you refer a new member and they register to join, we will extend your subscription by a month.  Refer one new member each month and you’ll never have to pay for a WeatherSpork subscription again.  It’s that easy.  So far our leader (thanks JD!) has extended his membership by at least 6 months since the program started.  Or if you are feeling generous, please feel free to donate your month to the pilot you are referring.  Just let us know so we can add the extra month to his/her subscription.  Keep up the good work and keep speaking about the Spork!

Come visit us at AirVenture 2018

WeatherSpork will not have a booth this year, but Scott will be presenting at AirVenture on Monday, July 23rd at 11 a.m.   It will be held in the AOPA Program Pavilion at the AOPA Campus across from the Brown Arch on the flight line (it won’t likely be listed in the AirVenture 2018 app, but can find the detailed schedule here).  His presentation will be on datalink weather options in the cockpit.  Scott will present some of the key differences for each option and it’ll also include a discussion of NEXRAD and lightning basics.  If you are planning to attend and will be at AirVenture on Monday, please stop by and say hello.  If you miss the talk, just look for us in our bright blue WeatherSpork shirts, we’ll be walking around the event most of the week.

Weather at AirVenture 2018

Are you attending AirVenture this year and want to know what the weather will be like during the week?  Join Scott in a free webinar that will be held on Saturday, July 21st.   Scott will give you an overview of what to expect during the week.  The exact time will be announced via email so be sure you have your email preferences set accordingly. To verify your preferences, simply login to avwxworkshops.com and go to the My Account page (upper-right of the home page) and be sure you have all of your email preferences selected.

What’s an MCS, you ask?

If you do most of your flying between May and September, you’ll want to get a good handle on these deadly beasts.  Read Scott’s recent post in The SporkReport to learn more about MCSs.  If there are any topics you’d like discussed, please forward your ideas to us.

Did you know?

Not only will WeatherSpork run on an iPhone and iPad, but it also runs on Android devices and in a web browser.  We strongly encourage the use of Google Chrome although it runs pretty well on Safari.  Simply open a new browser tab and type in weatherspork.com into the address bar.  From there you will find a selection to login to the web-based version of WeatherSpork.  With a few exceptions, the web-based version operates just like the app itself.
